Frequently Asked Question
What is a Tincture?
Tinctures are alcohol or glycerine based solutions prepared from fresh or dried botanicals. Tinctures are easily assimilated, convenient and can extract a wider range of medicinal properties than dried herbs and capsules.
Why do tinctures taste so bad?
Most of the tinctures that we make do not have the most pleasant taste. This is because herbs can be very strong tasting and it seems that the ones that work the best, taste the worst. The most painless way to take them is to place the drops in an ounce of water and just gulp it down. If desired, you can follow it with some juice to clear your palate.
Why is there alcohol in tinctures?
Alcohol extracts a greater amount of medicinal properties than just water or glycerine. Many herbs are very resinous which makes them not water soluble and are only able to extract into alcohol. Plus the alcohol keeps the product good and potent for 5-10 years.
I don't like to ingest alcohol, is there a way to get rid of it?
The alcohol in a tincture can be evaporated out by adding the drops to almost boiling water and swirling until cool or you could opt for a glycerine based tincture.
Will this work if I'm a recovering alcoholic?
In that case, it is best to only take glycerine based tinctures.
I want to give my children tinctures but they don't like the taste?
If it is for children, a glycerine based tincture would be best but if you would like to use a traditional tincture you can first evaporate out the alcohol. Then you can either have them gulp it down or put it in a small amount of juice.
How do I get a glycerine based tincture?
Since the shelf life of the glycerine based tinctures is only a few months we do not keep them stocked and only make them as they are ordered. This will also ensure you have the freshest tincture.
